Meet Penglord_3D

From buying prints to building a 3D printing business of his own.

Penglord_3D and his wife, Bcap06_3d, run their 3D printing business together—she handles much of what happens behind the scenes while he takes on the on-screen duties. What started with friendships in the 3D printing community and one very unexpected delivery has grown into a six-printer operation in just six months.

How it started

How did you get into 3D printing?

I started out as a buyer of prints and a mod for other sellers on Whatnot. I started following a bunch of amazing people, modding, making friends and gaining followers.

Bcap06_3d and I had talked about getting into 3D printing because we realized we were spending a bunch of money on prints.

Then one day I came home from work and saw a 3D printer sitting on my front porch. My amazing friends in the group had made a secret chat, got together and sent me a printer.

That was the start of the journey. Six months later, we’ve built a business and are getting ready to add our fifth and sixth printers.

Community from day one

How did you find 3D Addicts, and what made you stick around?

I was there at the very beginning. I was a member of the Shenani3d Discord and part of the first group of people to join the 3D Addicts Discord.

What has made me stick around is the amazing people and the love and support everyone shows one another. Everyone helps each other and embodies the mantra of “Community over Competition.”

A business taking shape

What does 3D printing look like for you today?

It looks like a new setup in my bedroom where I can keep my show display up instead of taking it down after every show. We have two printers in the Lego room, and soon we’ll have two in the living room and our bedroom.

It also looks like we’re getting closer to Bcap06_3d being able to leave her job and do 3D printing full time.

6 printers. One growing business.

Custom by design

What are you excited about right now?

I’m super excited about learning how to add names and images to existing prints and customize them for people.

I’ve made some awesome one-of-a-kind monkeys, Spartans and keychains, and I’m looking forward to teaching a few others in the group how to do it.

Trying what once felt impossible

What have you made, collected, or been part of that you’re especially proud of?

Being part of this amazing group of people. Being part of 3DA has shown me that I can push the limits of what I’m able to create.

I’ve printed things for Raid Trains and Print Wars that I would have never attempted otherwise.

Patience is part of the process

What’s something you’ve learned from someone in the 3DA community?

I’ve learned from a lot of people in the group that 3D printing is a test of patience and determination.

If something fails or you’re having issues with a print, put it on the back burner and come back to it. Sometimes a fresh start is needed.

Advice for someone just starting

3D printing is much more than picking a print and pressing start. It takes time, and you need to take care of your machine so it can take care of you.

What’s Next?

A new place to grow

What might people in 3DA be surprised to learn about you?

Bcap06_3d and I are still at the beginning of our journey, and we’re looking into getting a spot to sell our prints in a physical store.

We’re hoping to make that happen soon and will keep the group posted.
